EMUNÁ METHOD

Without a place to move or express, our stories, pain, emotions and conflict are stored in the body. They express as physical and psychological symptoms.

The Emuná Method™ is a discipline of presence, and a framework for returning to aliveness after rupture. Practitioners cultivate the capacity to sit with another person in a depth of presence and attunement that gives rise to the resonant third™, the space in which what could not be thought can be thought, and what could not be felt can be felt. The practitioner holds the space. The person's story begins to move.

The method was refined across two decades of clinical work, and it reaches back further, to an original calling in the love of human narrative.

Presence is the ground of the method. The capacity for deep presence is born in a person. The method refines that gift into an art.

The body is the text. Emotions live in the body. Particular emotions live in particular organs, and patterns of emotion appear alongside patterns of illness. The practitioner learns to read what the body is saying before the conscious mind can articulate it.

The resonant third arises in deep attunement, a space belonging to no one alone, where the untold story begins to move. Holding that space is the art of the method.

Self-encounter turns the reading inward. The practitioner meets their own biases, wounds, and blind places, and brings them to supervision. Reflection takes the practitioner's own form, whether written, spoken, moved, or painted.

The container holds the work. It happens inside a clinical frame, under the supervision, ethics, and psychiatric oversight of the institute. The container is what makes deep work safe, and what makes the method teachable.

The work itself moves as a passage. It begins at arrival, deepens through resonance and listening, and opens into the third, where the untold story is told, witnessed, and metabolized. What follows is a return to aliveness.

The Emuná Method is currently transmitted by apprenticeship. The methodology is taught to Emuná's therapeutic mentors and selected practitioners through a program both didactic and apprenticeship-based. Practitioners are chosen for the gift, formed in supervision, and demonstrate the method in their own medium.
