Emuná's Mission

Emuná advances the study and practice of human resiliency: the capacity to metabolize rupture and return to oneself, to relationship, to creativity. Return to aliveness.

The physician was once also a philosopher, an artist, a tender of the soul. Medicine, art, and spirit were one inquiry. Their division is a modern aberration, not the natural order. This is the premise of Emuná.

Emuná means faith: not belief, but fidelity enacted through practice. Its root, aman, means to hold firm. In Jewish tradition it is bound to uman: the artist, the craftsperson. Faith and creation understood as kindred work.

Here, psychiatry, the arts, therapeutic mentoring, and education are not separate offerings gathered under a brand. They are expressions of one inquiry into aliveness.

The Institute holds four doors:

A concierge psychiatric practice.

Therapeutic mentoring and expressive arts.

Education, through courses and workshops open to the public.

The Resonant Third: an inquiry into the space that emerges between two people in deep encounter, where unformulated experience becomes perceptible, embodied, and alive.

At the center of the Institute is the Emuná Method: the practitioner's discipline of presence, the art of opening and holding the resonant third, where a person can metabolize difficult emotions and return to aliveness.
